Our day started with a cracking sunrise over Castletown and a rainbow over Dunnet Beach where the sky meets the sea. Our sailing was calm across to St Margaret’s Hope and our first stop was the beautiful Italian Chapel built by POW in 1943. The day took us onto Kirkwall where I followed the Kirkwall Explorer and wandered into every nook and cranny of the town including St Magnus Cathedral and St Olaf Palace. Charity shops and chips at the Happy Fryer finished our afternoon here.

Also threw in a wee adventure to Vishall Hill to bag the Trigpoint en route to our accommodation.

And of course I saved the best for last the Broch of Gurness an Iron Age Broch village, I walked through the gate and I instantly fell back through time this place is just bloody amazing, such a sense of a by gone era and history jumping from the stones. The day ended with a stunning sunset over Swannay!
