James and I are headed south of the border for half term, first stop was the most northern Trigpoint in England on Halidon Hill the site of a historic battle in 1333 between the Scots and the English. We walked up from the viewpoint carpark with rewarding views across Berwick upon Tweed and the Cheviot Hills. The afternoon took us to the town where we explored doing the Berwick upon Tweed circular, the town is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe, it changed hands at least 13 times between England and Scotland. The Elizabethan ramparts are magnificent, the three bridges, castle ruins and military presence all tell their own story of its dramatic history across the centuries.
