The Flows of Forsinard

I’m up north for the weekend celebrating some birthdays with some of my adventure gang and managed to tick a few shorter walks off from my bucket list. I’ve always passed these travelling up north and never wanted to explore on my own, but today I had company. We ventured out to the Flows of Forsinard along the boardwalk exploring the well informed RSPB information centre and out to the Dubh Lochan pools and tower. This area is rich in wildlife and we saw some lizards 🦎 and the Flow Country bog land habitat is one of the rarest in the world.

Our next stop was the Badbea Highland Clearance, a haunting site of an abandoned settlement, where families were forced to live after the clearances. We visited the monument and carried on to Badbea where a rowan tree still stands. In days gone by these were planted to ward off evil spirits. The purple heather enhanced the cold beauty of this bleak landscape and the ruins spoke of a long standing sadness in their history. We were going to do the Walk Highlands loop but I was getting covered in micro ticks so we turned back and made up our own alternative loop.

Another great wee adventure day had in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
